====== AE2 Mechanics: Terminals ====== ^ Author | Applied Energistics Team | ^ Category | Storage & Automation | {{:download_3_.png?nolink&400|}} While ME Pattern Providers, ME Import Busses, ME Storage Busses, and other devices are how a ME Network interacts with the world, **Terminals** are how the network interacts with you. There are several variants, each with unique functions. Terminals inherit the color of the cable they are mounted on. They are cable subparts. ---- ===== Terminal Placement ===== As terminals are often the first subpart someone places, it is common to accidentally place them backwards. A correctly placed terminal will connect directly into the network, often alongside an energy acceptor, and fit neatly into a smaller space. {{:download_4_.png?nolink&400|}} ---- ===== Terminal ===== {{:download_6_.png?nolink&400|}} The **basic terminal** allows you to view and access network storage contents, as well as request items from your autocrafting setup. ==== The UI ==== ^ Section | Functions | | **Center** | Access stored items and fluids. Insert and extract freely. | | | **Left-click** → grabs a full stack | | | **Right-click** → grabs half a stack | | | **Pick block key** (usually middle-click) → opens the autocrafting UI if the item can be crafted; accepts formulas like `3*64/2` or `=32` | | | **Shift** → freezes the display, preventing reorganization when counts change | | | **Right-click with a fluid container** → deposits the fluid | | | **Left-click a fluid with an empty container** → withdraws the fluid | | **Left** | Settings: Sorting (name, mod, quantity), Display (stored / craftable / both), Display (items / fluids / both), Sort order, Terminal settings, UI height | | **Right** | Slots for **View Cells** | | **Top-right (hammer)** | Opens the autocrafting status UI showing crafting CPU activity and progress | ==== Recipe ==== {{:screenshot_2025-09-14_185343.png?nolink&400|}} ---- ===== Crafting Terminal ===== {{:download_7_.png?nolink&400|}} The **Crafting Terminal** has all the features of a regular terminal, plus a crafting grid that auto-refills ingredients from network storage. Be cautious when **shift-clicking outputs**, as large amounts may move unexpectedly. Upgrade to a crafting terminal early. ==== The UI ==== ^ Section | Extra Features | | Crafting Grid | Central 3x3 crafting grid with auto-refill from network | | Buttons | Empty grid into network storage / Empty grid into your inventory | ==== Recipe ==== {{:screenshot_2025-09-14_185355.png?nolink&400|}} ---- ===== Pattern Encoding Terminal ===== {{:download_8_.png?nolink&400|}} The **Pattern Encoding Terminal** resembles a crafting terminal, but its grid is for **pattern creation**, not crafting. This is essential for setting up autocrafting patterns. ==== The UI ==== ^ Element | Function | | Blank Pattern slot | Insert blank patterns to encode | | Encode arrow | Finalizes a pattern | | Encoded Pattern slot | Insert an existing pattern to edit, then re-encode | | Tabs (4) | Select mode: Crafting / Processing / Smithing / Stonecutting | **Crafting Mode** * Place ingredients via JEI/REI * Right-click to remove * Enable substitutions (e.g. any plank → stick) * Fluid substitutions allow stored fluids instead of buckets * Encode directly from JEI/REI recipes **Processing Mode** * Define inputs/outputs with items or fluids * Left/right click or pick block key to set stack sizes * Outputs allow a primary and optional secondary results * Input (81 max) and output (26 max) slots scroll * Encode directly from JEI/REI recipes **Smithing / Stonecutting Modes** * Match their vanilla UIs ==== Recipe ==== {{:screenshot_2025-09-14_185401.png?nolink&400|}} ---- ===== Pattern Access Terminal ===== {{:download_9_.png?nolink&400|}} The **Pattern Access Terminal** solves the problem of hard-to-reach **Pattern Providers** in dense Molecular Assembler towers. It gives network-wide access to all pattern providers without walking to them. ==== The UI ==== ^ Feature | Function | | Adjustable Height | Change terminal display height | | Provider Options | Choose which pattern providers to display | | Sorting | Rows sorted by block type or custom name (via anvil or Inscriber Name Press) | ==== Recipe ==== {{:screenshot_2025-09-14_185407.png?nolink&400|}}
